BLAKE BANSHEE

Digital art of my hyena fursona Blake's 3d model for VRChat, heavily edited to resemble the mask-like figure in the Blank Banshee 0 album cover. Eyeless and without a body, the expression is void and cold. Text above reads 'BLAKE BANSHEE', all of this on a background gradient of purple to blue. The same, but without the face removed, showing only the title text, with different colored fonts closely -- but not perfectly -- overlapping it. Several Unity screenshots of mask-form Blake, showing various angles tested, on greenscreen backgrounds.

This idea I've actually sat on for a few years I think lol

It wasn't until I started VRChat that I realized Alber's Hyenid works perfectly for this. The eyes and hair are already separate objects on the model so that part wasn't difficult. What was deceptively tricky for something so simple looking were the perspective and the font.

I had tried several different angles and FOVs in Unity beforehand, trying to juggle what felt off versus just a difference in human vs toony furry facial proportions. The font was also very difficult to get perfectly, and I ended up moving letters around at the end.

I did include my attempts, with what seems pretty clearly to be some modified version of Arial Bold Italic, also notice some discerning changes to the text (like the tip of the L changed for better kerning with the A, which shows up on some versions of the album cover (ie Wikipedia page) and not others (Youtube video linked here, sans thumbnail). I also planned to do this but was unsatisfied, even if my attempts were pretty close. There's lots of little design stuff that's hard to notice at first.

This is one of my favorite albums ever. One of my very first stylistic inspirations to who I am now, along with Vektroid and Death's Dynamic Shroud. When I talk about colorful music, I'm talking about stuff like this. This was my rainbow in the mist.

And I never realized how fun it is to sing all the ranges of the warped pitch vocals... but I found these albums before I found my head voice eheh
